Nintendo announced during E3 2012 via Nintendo Network show, Nintendo Direct and YouTube series, Nintendo Minute, that a Virtual Console section would be added to the system. The section’s launch date was July 11, 2012. Later on the same day, the controller’s shoulder buttons were re-mapped from being used to move the player’s on-screen character in that way to a more intuitive method of moving through the game. The touch-screen intended for the use of Nintendo’s title called, Nintendo 3DS Happy Post 2.0, was released during that same press conference. This new version was compatible with the existing home console games and added the ability to insert Nintendo Points into the system. Screenshot and video demonstrations of Nintendo 3DS Happy Post 2.0 were released within a day of the announcement and it was available for purchase on July 18, 2012.
The original headset was shipped out to retailers and stores nationwide on July 29, 2012. The system is compatible with the Nunchuk Plus accessory, which was released with the Nintendo 3DS in September 2012. The Final Fantasy VII-themed Nintendogs + Catsami was released on October 25, 2012. Nintendo has announced that it will develop special editions of the game for “families of multiracial children” during a launch event on November 6, 2012.
With the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo also brought back its Online functionality with Nintendo DSi and Nintendo 3DS systems with Online Functionality of Nintendo DSi software and Online features of Nintendo DSi and Nintendo 3DS software; the Nintendo 3DS also brought a compliant local wireless LAN environment that supports those functions. With the release of Pokémon Black and White 2, the Nintendo 3DS also received a Bayonet Item that adds a spear element to the game’s battle system.
